Mind The Gap is a programme of free expert advice on starting out in the dance industry. In this professional class, join breaker and hip-hop theatre maker Jamaal O'Driscoll to develop floorwork techniques and breaking tips and tricks that can be used in any dance style. This session will be followed by a discussion with Jamaal and producer Emily Labhart to share insights into the artist/producer relationship and how they work together.
Rooted in Birmingham, Jamaal is a hip-hop performer, choreographer and founder of O’Driscoll Collective. Jamaal launched his artistic career through hip-hop competitions, going on to teach in schools and deliver workshops in a variety of settings, alongside judging international competitions and performing at festivals and events. In 2019, Jamaal choreographed Simplicity, presenting it at Birmingham Hippodrome and Dance 2 Connect Festival, Ireland. His piece ONE% premiered at Birmingham Weekender 2019 and was recently performed at Sadler’s Wells as part of Breakin Convention’s Social DisDancing 2020. Jamaal is also a DanceXchange Choreography Award artist.
